Most Anticipated of 2021

Whether 2021 sees our world return to some semblance of normalcy, or it remains more of the same from the turbulent 2020, there is still a lot of entertainment I’m looking forward to in the next year. Maybe I still won’t be able to sit down in a movie theater, or go cheer on the Buffalo Bills at Bills Stadium for a game, but I’ll be happy just to have the opportunity to enjoy any of it, no matter how I have to experience it. Here is the movie, tv show, video game, comic book, novel, and sporting event I’m most excited for in 2021.

MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIE – NO TIME TO DIE

History has shown that there’s no guarantee that a release date for this elusive movie will actually hold, but here’s to hoping that April 2nd is finally the magic day. I’ve been a huge James Bond for most of my life, and I feel everything is in place for this to be one of Bond’s best outings ever.

MOST ANTICIPATED TV SHOW – GODZILLA: SINGULAR POINT

I love Godzilla. I love anime. There’s a very good chance that I will love this upcoming Godzilla anime! The visuals already looks infinitely better than the ugly CG animation from the recent trilogy of animated Godzilla films, and the prospect of this being in multi-episode seasons makes for a whole new way to tell a Kaiju story. All the better, it seems we’re getting several monsters who haven’t appeared in a movie in decades!

MOST ANTICIPATED VIDEO GAME – MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 2: WINGS OF RUIN

I adored the first Monster Hunter Stories game on Nintendo 3DS, but it wasn’t a huge commercial hit, so I never thought we would get a second game like it. You can only imagine how thrilled I was when this sequel was announced earlier this year. The game looks gorgeous on Nintendo Switch, and with that more powerful hardware, it promises to be an even bigger, better adventure than last time.

MOST ANTICIPATED COMIC BOOK – THE LAST GOD (OMNIBUS)

At long last, I’ll finally be able to read this epic dark fantasy series in one great, complete volume. The Last God is said to be like The Lord of the Rings mixed with gritty sword and sorcery standouts like Conan the Barbarian and Kull the Conqueror. I’m always on the lookout for great comic books in the genres of fantasy and science fiction, and I think this grim, brutal tale could be a real winner for the medium.

MOST ANTICIPATED NOVEL – SKYWARD 3

Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite authors in recent years, and while I’ve thoroughly enjoyed series like Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive, I think the Skyward series is turning out to be my favorite from him. The first two books were delightful young adult sci-fi romps, with a terrific cast of characters and equally terrific world building. After the crazy ending to book two, Starsight, I can’t wait to see what unfolds in book three.

MOST ANTICIPATED SPORTING EVENT – BUFFALO BILLS HOME PLAYOFF GAME

Our first home playoff game in 24 years, our first division title in 25 years, potentially our best regular season record in 29 years — this Buffalo Bills season has far and away been the most memorable of my lifetime. The team is playing their best football in decades, and after a long time coming, they’ll finally get to host a playoff game here in Buffalo just a couple of weeks from now. The offense is on fire, the defense is standing tall, and the camaraderie between the players has never been better. It’s time to Circle the Wagons!
