The Art of The Luminous Legend

2017 is fast approaching, and I can’t wait for it. That’s because next year we will see the release of all three books in The Luminous Legend trilogy. I’ve been hard at work on these high fantasy novels for well over four years now, and although I’ll still have plenty of revisions and editing to do throughout early 2017, there is so much satisfaction in knowing that their completion is on the horizon.

I don’t have any new updates on the progress of the writing, but what I have here are some amazing pieces of artwork that I had commissioned over the course of 2016. I was lucky enough to work with some very talented artists who made characters from my stories come to life with all manner of tools; pencil, marker, watercolor, digital effects, even tea stains!

The Luminous Legend Excerpt – The Queen of the Ocean

If you’ve visited this website in the past, you probably saw a very different banner from what I’ve got now sitting at the top. That beautiful piece of artwork depicts the main character from my upcoming book, The Luminous Legend, who’s name is Alamor. I was lucky enough to commission a piece from an incredible young artist named Pam Hage, which will now serve as the artwork for the cover the book. As we get closer to the release of the book, I plan to put a full write-up here on this website that details the process Pam and I went through conceptualizing the art, including some of the early sketches that she did.

The real exciting part is that may not be long of a wait; I’m happy to say that the finish line is in sight, and I expect to complete the book within the next couple of months. I think it’s fair to say that a summer release is extremely likely, at this point. So, with that said, I’d say  it’s time to drop another excerpt from the book here.

Turn Off Game of Thrones and Put On Mad Max or The Legend of Korra

I don’t claim to be an avid follower of the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise, neither the novels, nor the television show, Game of Thrones.

But I know what happened on Sunday night’s episode, and I also know it was far from the first time that rape has been casually tossed into the story, whether it be on the page or on the screen.

Among countless other instances of gruesome and gratuitous maiming—done in order to elicit an emotional response from the audience—the vile amount of rapes that occur in Game of Thrones and the novels it’s based upon continues to be the reason why I will never support that putrid franchise.

First Excerpt of Radiant Fate

I’ve been waiting a while to put up a new snippet from one of my books up on here, and after finishing the first draft of what I’ve intended to be the second novel in The Luminous Legend series, now seems like the perfect time to provide a sneak peek. This doesn’t mean I’m anywhere near done with my work; I’ve got months of proofreading and revisions ahead of me, and that’s on top of writing the third and final part of the series, which I’m still not entirely sure will be it’s own book, or will be combined into the second part of the series as one big book.

But that’s another concern for another time. Until then, here’s an excerpt from Radiant Fate, the continuation of the adventure that I began with this past summer’s Echoes of Light. In this teaser, the main character, Alamor, has a somber discussion with Prince Tridian about the late King Hokara’s campaign to reclaim the war-torn desert known as the Arid Reaches, and bring it under the royal family’s prosperous sovereignty.
