A Tale of Two Covers

Four years ago, I attempted to self-publish my first novels, the three books in The Legend of Light (originally titled The Luminous Legend).

It did not go well.

From Sketch to Cover – The Echoes of Light Artwork

One of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in putting together The Legend of Light trilogy didn’t have anything to do with writing, or even the story, itself. Collaborating with my cover artist, Pam Hage, was the kind of work I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a little kid watching behind-the-scenes featurettes on DVD extras for such films like Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, seeing how concept art builds the eventual imagery that audiences see.

The Echoes of Light Excerpt – Alamor Duels a Strife Wing

There are certain scenes that stay with you, that you can remember detail for detail off the top of your head. Especially in the case of an author, there are scenes that are so important to you, that you never forget every last thought and feeling that swirled through your body as you were writing a particular moment in your story.

Echoes of Light Excerpt – The Beloved Princess

At the start of The Legend of Light, the kingdom of Tordale is still reeling from the untimely death of King Arthus Hokara. Since his wife, Saruma Hokara, passed away many years prior, it leaves Princess Raissa (21 years old) and her brother, Prince Tridian (28 years old) with the enormous responsibility to rule the kingdom–a task that is thrust upon them far sooner than they ever expected. The two inexperienced leaders are weighed down the pressure of their authority every day of their lives. Raissa is very much out of her element in politics, but she remains a beloved figure in the eyes of the people for her winsome personality. Even if “ruling” isn’t quite one of her skills, just yet, Raissa is more than capable of inspiring all of the races across Tordale with her grace and compassion.

5 Greatest Inspirations

I’ve been able to find inspiration for my writing in just about anything—nature, wildlife, sports, music—but where I find it most often is in the copious amounts of fiction that I consume. Whether it be literature, comics, television, movies, or even video games, the many stories that I’ve enjoyed over the years have consistently put my imagination to work. If I were to list every last piece of fiction that has influenced me in some way, I’d be writing a novel that’s probably longer than one of the three books in The Legend of Light.

Echoes of Light Excerpt – Wraithlings, the Pawns of Scourge

The first book in The Legend of Light trilogy will be releasing in early-mid 2018, so I’m planning all sorts of previews and snippets to show off as we close in on the publication date. Most will appear on the series’ Facebook page, which, if you ‘Like’, you automatically are entered for a chance to win a free copy of book one, Echoes of Light, just before the book’s release.

The Art of The Luminous Legend

2017 is fast approaching, and I can’t wait for it. That’s because next year we will see the release of all three books in The Luminous Legend trilogy. I’ve been hard at work on these high fantasy novels for well over four years now, and although I’ll still have plenty of revisions and editing to do throughout early 2017, there is so much satisfaction in knowing that their completion is on the horizon.

I don’t have any new updates on the progress of the writing, but what I have here are some amazing pieces of artwork that I had commissioned over the course of 2016. I was lucky enough to work with some very talented artists who made characters from my stories come to life with all manner of tools; pencil, marker, watercolor, digital effects, even tea stains!
