From Sketch to Cover – The Echoes of Light Artwork

One of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in putting together The Legend of Light trilogy didn’t have anything to do with writing, or even the story, itself. Collaborating with my cover artist, Pam Hage, was the kind of work I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a little kid watching behind-the-scenes featurettes on DVD extras for such films like Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, seeing how concept art builds the eventual imagery that audiences see.

Interview With Artist Dara Gold

I first became familiar with Dara Gold and her art a few years ago when I came across her booth at Niagara Falls Comic Con. A friend of mine was particularly interested in a Magikarp drawing she had done, while her Wind Waker print was what caught my eye. Knowing she was a huge Legend of Zelda fan, like myself, I would later have her draw me a commission of Kaepora Gaebora, from Ocarina of Time.

Interview With Pam Hage – The Artist Behind The Legend of Light’s Covers

Working with artist Pam Hage on the covers of all three books in The Legend of Light has been nothing but a pleasure since day one. She’s as busy as she is talented, which is why I’ve always been very grateful to have her illustrating the cover art for what is my first series of novels.

I’ve commented on the creative process between us several times through posts for The Legend of Light’s Facebook page, but social media updates only allow for so much info. Just the same, it sounds a lot better coming from the artist, herself. Pam was nice enough to take a few minutes from her hectic schedule to participate in a little interview, where she offered lots of insight into the creation of the book’s various cover art. The illustration for Book One, Echoes of Light, is featured on this website’s primary header, featuring the main character Alamor; the illustration for Book Two, The Gleaming Path, is featured at the top of this specific piece, where you see the other main character in the story, Princess Raissa Hokara.

The Art of The Luminous Legend

2017 is fast approaching, and I can’t wait for it. That’s because next year we will see the release of all three books in The Luminous Legend trilogy. I’ve been hard at work on these high fantasy novels for well over four years now, and although I’ll still have plenty of revisions and editing to do throughout early 2017, there is so much satisfaction in knowing that their completion is on the horizon.

I don’t have any new updates on the progress of the writing, but what I have here are some amazing pieces of artwork that I had commissioned over the course of 2016. I was lucky enough to work with some very talented artists who made characters from my stories come to life with all manner of tools; pencil, marker, watercolor, digital effects, even tea stains!
